2012 Top 10 Player Updates

Shabazz Muhammad

In the first edition of our top ranked player updates, we check in on the Hoops Recruits Top 10 and see what the absolute latest is in their recruitment and how their AAU/High school seasons are going.  Check back frequently as a lot of new stuff is headed to the site.  Our initial Top 75 for the 2013 class is due to come out Sunday, as well as our 2012 top 10 rankings by position, which is also coming soon.  As far as our 2012 Top 75, it is definitely going to look different soon.  Shabazz Muhammad will almost assuredly take over the top spot with his stellar play of late.

#1. Andre Drummond - According to Andy Katz of ESPN, Drummond is still considering Kentucky, North Carolina, Florida and UConn among others.  Rumors were running rampant that Drummond may try to become eligible and play for UConn in the 2011 season.   Some, including Jerry Meyer of Rivals, think Drummond still winds up at UConn, just in 2012.

#2. Isaiah Austin -
One of two in our top 10 that is committed. The 7 footer is solid to Baylor, nothing new to see here.

#3. Shabazz Muhammad -
Jeff Goodman of CBS Sports, on the radio with Matt Jones of Kentucky Sports Radio, said that in the end he thinks it comes down to UCLA and Kentucky.  Muhammad dropped 29 in a battle against Drummond in Indianapolis at the Adidas Invitational, he also scored 42 in a win over Indiana Elite, before his team bowed out Saturday morning.  PremierBall spoke with Shabazz today, and was quoted as saying that he loves Texas A&M and they will be there til the end (in his recruitment.)

#4. Mitch McGary - Big week for McGary this week, as (per numerous sources) he picked up offers from Kentucky, Duke, Memphis and North Carolina St.  There seems to be  some confusion as to whether he actually received one from North Carolina.  Mitch already held offers from Arizona, Kansas, Indiana and Texas among others.

#5. DaJuan Coleman -
The NY big man will choose from a list of four schools, according to Mike DeCourcy of Sporting News, Syracuse, Kentucky, Ohio State and North Carolina.  Also mentioned in that piece is the fact that Coleman is working his tail off to get to a more ideal playing weight at 275.

#6. Rodney Purvis - Word has it, Purvis has eliminated Kentucky due to a change in interest on UK's part after acquiring Ryan Harrow.  Evan Daniels of Scout.com claims Purvis  will announce his decidion in August, before his senior year.  The three schools in contention appear to be Duke, North Carolina State & Missouri.

#7. Archie Goodwin - The Arkansas baller injured his wrist in early June and is currently rehabbing, hoping to get back on the court in time for Peach Jam.  Goodwin stated this week that he will not get in any hurry committing to a school, looking to make his decision in spring (2012).  Schools in the running for his services include Kentucky, Arkansas,  Kansas, Louisville, Memphis and many others.

#8. Jarnell Stokes - Stokes listed Memphis, Arkansas, Kentucky, UConn, Tennessee and Florida as his top schools.  UK and Florida have not offered, as of yet, but Stokes did  receive a call from UK assistant Orlando Antigua this week, after the UK staff learned of his interest through his blog on the National Recruiting Spotlight site.

#9. Kaleb Tarczewski - The 7 footer had quite a few interested parties watching him this past week, including John Calipari, Sean Miller, Tom Crean, Bob Huggins, Danny Manning and others.  No leaders listed, as his coaches had him off limits to media.

#10. Cameron Ridley -
The only other top 10 committed prospect, to Texas, Ridley had a good week at Adidas.  He had 34 in one win and 23 points, 11 boards and 7 blocks in another.   Have heard nothing to indicate Ridley is not solid to Texas.
